Q: What is acupressure?
A: Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves applying pressure to specific points on the body to promote healing and relaxation.
Q: What are the benefits of acupressure?
A: Acupressure can help with a variety of issues, including stress and anxiety, pain relief, digestive problems, and more. It promotes relaxation, improves circulation, and stimulates the body's natural healing abilities.
Q: What should I expect during an acupressure session?
A: During an acupressure session, you will lie down on a massage table fully clothed while I apply pressure to specific points on your body using my fingertips. If it's a virtual session, I will guide you to the acupoints, so that you can apply the pressure yourself. Or, I can work on you remotely. The pressure is firm yet gentle. You may feel sensations such as warmth, tingling, or pressure during the session.
Q: Is acupressure painful?
A: Acupressure should not be painful, but you may feel some discomfort or sensitivity during the session. I will adjust the pressure as needed to ensure your comfort.
Q: Is acupressure safe for everyone to receive?
A: Acupressure is generally safe for most people, but it is important to consult with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns. Certain conditions, such as pregnancy or certain health conditions, may require modifications or caution during the session. You will be asked to complete an intake form prior to the first session to provide your health history and to inform me of any changes in following sessions in order to ensure the treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
Q: What should I expect if I start to feel emotional during an acupressure session?
A: It's common to experience emotions during acupressure, as it can release tension and help you process past experiences. If you feel emotional or start to cry, know that it's a natural response and a healthy part of the healing process. I am trained to create a safe and supportive space for you to express your emotions and process your experiences. You are always in control of your session, and I will work with you to ensure that you feel comfortable and safe throughout the session. If you have any concerns or questions about emotional release during a session, please feel free to discuss them with me beforehand.
Q: How long does an acupressure session last?
A: Acupressure sessions typically last between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on your needs and preferences
Q: How many sessions will I need to see results?
A: The number of sessions needed to see results will depend on your individual needs and goals. Some people may feel improvement after just one session, while others may benefit from multiple sessions over time. During our introductory call, I will assess the need and offer you a plan of action.
Q: How do I prepare for an acupressure session?
A: It is recommended that you wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and avoid eating a heavy meal before the session. You may also want to avoid alcohol and caffeine beforehand to promote relaxation. It's good to have plenty of water right after a session, so have a bottle of water nearby. Some people enjoy journaling their reflections after a session, so you may wish to have your journaling materials as well.
Q: What forms of payment, including insurance, do you accept?
A: Payment is due in full prior to the session and may be remitted using Square, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, cash, or check. Please note that usually, insurance does not cover these sessions. However, clients have been successful in using their HSA or FSA by providing a letter from their doctor detailing the symptoms for which they are receiving acupressure treatment, along with an invoice from me.
