Q: What is Somatic Therapy and how does it work?
A: Somatic therapy is a holistic approach that connects the body, mind, and soul, using physical sensations, emotional awareness, and energy to support healing and balance. Through mindful somatic awareness, acupressure, ancestral healing, and shamanic practices, we address physical tension, emotional overload, and the deeper layers of your being, unlocking your innate capacity for growth and transformation.
Q: What types of pain or conditions can somatic therapy help with?
A: The somatic therapy I offer can help address a wide range of physical and emotional challenges, including but not limited to:
- Chronic pain
- Stress and tension
- Anxiety and depression
- Trauma and PTSD
- Sleep disturbances
- Digestive issues
- Headaches and migraines
- Grief and loss
Q: How long does a session last?
A: Sessions typically last between 60 to 90 minutes, or up to 2 hours, depending on your needs and the type of work we’re doing together. During our initial consultation, we’ll discuss your goals and I’ll propose a session length that feels most appropriate for you. For most clients, 60 minutes is a good starting point. After the first few sessions, once we’ve had a chance to work together and assess your progress, we’ll discuss whether the session length feels right or if we should adjust it.
Q: How many sessions will I need to see results?
A: The number of sessions varies depending on your unique needs and goals. Some clients begin to feel relief after just one session, while others may benefit from a series of sessions over weeks or months. Typically, if the issue has been chronic or deeply ingrained, it may take a bit longer to fully address. Many clients begin working with me on a specific issue and come for a series of sessions. Once the issue has been resolved, they may return periodically for general maintenance or to address new challenges as they arise. During our initial consultation, we’ll discuss your needs in detail and work together to create a personalized roadmap that’s right for you.
Q: Is somatic therapy safe?
A: Yes, somatic therapy is generally safe and can be incredibly beneficial for a variety of conditions, including chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, stress, anxiety, trauma, and emotional tension. It's also a safe approach for those who are pregnant, undergoing fertility treatments, or working with other healthcare providers. Each session is personalized to meet your specific needs, and we’ll adjust the techniques to ensure comfort and support throughout your healing process. If you’re working with a doctor or other healthcare provider, I encourage open communication to ensure somatic therapy complements your care. My goal is to provide a nurturing space where you feel supported and at ease.
Q: How should I prepare for my initial consultation?
A: For our first call, simply come as you are. There’s no need to overthink it—just be ready to share what brought you to somatic therapy and any areas where you’re experiencing discomfort, emotional tension, or challenges. If you have specific goals or things you'd like to work on, feel free to mention them. It’s also helpful, but not necessary, to share any relevant medical or mental health history. We’ll chat for about 20 minutes, and I’ll explain how my services can support you and offer a roadmap to your personal growth and healing.
Q: Does somatic therapy really work remotely?
A: Yes, somatic therapy really works remotely! In virtual sessions, we still explore body awareness, energy, and emotional patterns together. I may guide you to hold energy points on your own body, which strengthens your connection to both your body and yourself. While it’s different from an in-person session, many clients find that the healing and insight gained from tuning into physical sensations and emotions in a familiar space, like your home or office, not only offers flexibility but also creates a sense of safety and comfort, making it a powerful and supportive way to receive care.
Q: Do I need to disrobe during the session?
A: No, you will remain fully clothed during the session. Somatic therapy often involves gentle touch (such as acupressure) or simply guiding you through body awareness exercises, all of which are done while you're comfortably dressed. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement.
Q: Do you accept insurance?
A: I do not currently accept insurance, but many clients have successfully submitted invoices to their FSA/HSA accounts. I can provide you with a detailed invoice after each session that includes all the necessary information for reimbursement. If you have questions, please feel free to inquire during our initial consultation.
Find Your WayMy hope is that through our work together, you will rediscover your innate wisdom for living life with greater ease, self-compassion, and love.
